Melaque ejidatarios can regularize their legal status

Guadalajara, Jal., July 16, 2014

The ejido San Patricio, who for 24 years has fought in courts Melaque beaches in the municipality of Cihuatlan, adjacent to Colima, announced a preliminary agreement with agricultural authorities. To achieve this, it would be one of the few on the coast of Jalisco that have stood the real estate and tourism pressure.

In celebration of 77 years since the founding of the ejido, which for two decades has not been officially recognized, the chairman of the board, Miguel Alvarez Sanchez said are imminent certification of the settlement, the registry update ejidatarios, recognition of the board and the regularization of their ejido endowment.

It seems to me there are not two places of Melaque and San Patricio especially since the ownership of the beach has been settled although at one point the beach and part of town were considered Melaque. According to the sign above San Patricio Ejido was founded in 1937 or 77 years before July 2014 with no mention of why the name. Neighbors say there used to be a small rancho named San Patricio possible owned by a family with that name. Another old timer says Melaque beach used to be called the Beach of Malaquicon.

Public baños .... not everyone is pleased

A bit of an uproar on Facebook about if they are necessary, where they are located, will they be clean, be safe, be lit 24 hours. Well there is an 8pm meeting tonight at the San Patricio Ejido building. Supposedly everyone is invited.

No one on the beach

This was a 3 day weekend with Monday being the birthday of Benito Juarez but the weather chased everyone away. Over 10 inches of rain in two days and it's raining hard again this morning. Flooding in many places and dangerous driving conditions. Today is St. Patrick's Day and the last day of the 9 day Fiesta San Patricio is famous for. Sadly the rain not only cased physical damage but also economic damage to the area.

Pro Animal Melaque. School Outreach

MORE SCHOOL OUTREACH

We were invited to present our program to Maestro Domingo's class at the Primaria Federal Virginia Torres in San Patricio. Twenty-eight eager third graders engaged in a discussion of proper pet care, and as usual their favorite part of the presentation was hands-on time with the animals. Thanks to Maribel, Christine, Debra and Mary for their involvement in this outreach, and a big gracias to Kiti, Gasparín, and Cinco for their patience while entertaining the kids! We are still looking for volunteers to help with the school outreach program so that we can reach more students each semester.

Secondary School Fundraiser

Construction has already started on the new site directly behind the old school but with a meter or two higher elevation. The main problem with the old school was flooding, but it's also getting tired and is too small for the current population. The construction has Federal, State and Municipal funding but your contribution will help San Patricio/Melaque fulfill it's portion of the project. 100 pesos for dinner and entertainment and it helps the school. March 5th at 5PM.
