Civil Protection Warnings

With unusually large surf for the last few days and the festivities of Semana Santa -- Civil Protection recommends that people take their precautions before entering into any body of water, watch the children and not swimming after eating food or alcoholic beverages.

Warnings come after a drowning in Arroyo Seco and a rescue in Perula and a rescue in Melaque

TomZap only has Spam left

Attachment from drumstiix, the biggest Spammer
Even if it is music (his music)

Very little conversation left because most vacationers and snow-birds have gone home to avoid Semana Santa which is early this year. The usual spammers below are fishing for the last hanger-on's that are still here. Some of them are much worse than others with very few almost welcome. Just kind of pitiful to see this last minute fishing. Pretty soon it will almost  grind to a halt.

Semana Santa en Melaque

Borrowed photos from canal235.com because we are staying away from the beach. We went the first weekend and restaurants were full but this last weekend is the crazy busiest of the 3. We did go to the Water Park Saturday and it was totally packed later in the day. Of course my camera went off Automatic setting and I ended up with no photos.

Las Primaveras on Primavera

A new restaurant this year. Another that is aimed at the winter tourist crowd and will probably go away right after Semana Santa in April. I don't know anything about it except that it's attractive and in an area with no other restaurants except those on the beach. Maybe a little upscale to attract the average beach going Mexican but who knows. As far as I know the street is Primavera but they chose Primaveras -- in West Melaque.

Semana Santa 2009

Semana Santa 'Easter' runs from about the fifth thru the eighteenth, or fifteen days. Semana Santa is the second busiest holiday after Christmas and usually all the winter vacationing gringos are gone. They leave because the weather is getting warmer and to avoid the massive crowds of Mexicans on this very busy holiday.

I've seen the beach busier during this time but still a lot of people .... and it's only Friday.

And then comes Semana Santa

... and this was only last Thursday. This weekend we are staying away from the beach because there's not even a place to sit, let alone walk. Bus after bus load of people has been rolling in for the last week. There are 10+ police directing traffic, streets are closed at night downtown, extra police and ambulances from around the state are here, Mariachi and highschool bands walk the beach and town. Bring your stove, a tank of gas, a few plastic chairs and set up a restaurant in the median. Everyone that lives in Melaque is selling something.

Our end of town is less crowded because the ocean is less friendly here with large waves. Red flags line the beach but people are still entering the water. So far one drowning and a broken arm - both in the center of town. Hopefully no more problems as the crowds will start to thin out this week.

After all the Gringos go home

By April 1st just about all the Gringos have returned north again for the end of yet another Winter season. With just a week or 2 of relative peace and quiet - suddenly comes Semana Santa and with it the hords of Mexicans that will fill our area for almost 2 weeks. The buses are starting to arrive, we did our last minute shopping and the Mariachi bands are already walking the beaches. I took this foto of the 'West End Trailer Park' a few days ago with not a Gringo Mobile in sight. The place will soon be full of Mexican car campers.

The surf is unusually large and I hope not too many unfamiliar with the ocean get in trouble. Lifeguards are walking the beach. I'll have more fotos as the town fills up to record my first Semana Santa on the beach in Mexico.
