New bridge and old school

The west end bridge that crosses the canal is finally finished. Two guys are working on expansion joints and that will be it except for painting a line down the middle.

They paved out to the highway and redid the on ramp towards Melaque.  Right now they are putting up a new metal guardrail where the guys are working.

And finally the old Secondaria on the highway. The picture is from a few days ago but now all but one building is a pile of rubble.  Destined to be a new soccer and sports field.

Melaque new Secondaria

This week is sign up for first year kids at the new Secondaria so we took Yari and we got our first good look. Very nice and definitely will be ready for the coming school year. Two large 2 story buildings and 4-5 smaller single story. I thought the overall property was much smaller but there is a full sized basketball court, a large tree lined drainage canal that looks like a stream, a huge open space in the direction of the highway for a soccer field and a very large "parade ground" for the 'marchando' they like to do. There is also a ramp for wheelchairs or disabled on the Melaque entrance.

San Patricio Secondaria

I got about 5 not very good pictures of current school construction and decided on these two.  Basically there are two very large classroom buildings and four smaller buildings. They all have roofs, floors and 3/4's of them are painted. Windows and doors are in all but the last large one below.   Both Yari and Euriel are excited that the new school may be ready for them next Fall.

Melaque Secondaria progress

Wow .... they have gone from starting the foundation to a poured 2nd floor roof on the largest building in just a month. This is well funded professional construction. Ready by next school year not likely but certainly impressive. Four buildings started total; 2 large and 2 smaller. I hear when ready the old school will be torn down for a play/soccer field.

Centro de Salud and a new Muebleria

The Melaque Centro de Salud is moving along once again. Looks like the structure is finsihed and just painting and finishing touches left to go. Doors, windows and fixtures are not cheap so there may be more financial delays.

According to neighbors the last picture is of a new Muebleria that I get the feeling will be upscale. Pretty strange building style. It's located a few doors off the plaza behind OXXO.  The new Secondaria is also moving along with second floor construction almost ready to begin. No bricks, solid cement walls with a very strong foundation.

New Secondaria construction

Stopped by to check out the new school construction and they are sinking pilings for the foundation. The holes are 6 meters deep with a large 'tube' of re-bar down the middle later to be filled with cement. The old play field was over a meter higher than the old school but they have added another meter of crushed rock on top of that to avoid any chance of flooding. Much more work to go but they haven't stopped for the last month. Hope the money hold out.

Revisiting the Mirador

After dropping off Euriel at the Melaque Secondaria at 1:30 I had a date to show Ron's lots to the guy that runs Monaco Real Estate. The lots are across the canal on the west end and below the road to the Mirador. One of the kids noticed a car on the road above and asked about it. I was surprised that the whole family had not been up there before after living so many years in the area. So up we went for another new experience for some of us and the great view.
