Villa Obregon will have it's first Day of the Dead celebration tomorrow, Saturday on it's plaza. Should make for a very busy weekend with the Melaque plaza also full of displays.

Poor old Melaque and it's constant sewer problems. Probably the pump is broken, they never have a backup and now it's in Villa Obregon on Reforma and downtown Melaque.

Mexican Rodeo Party in Villa Obregon

Mexican Rodeo Party coming up this Saturday (Feb 13) in Villa Obregon! Tickets are 250 pesos and proceeds go to support a new charro (horsemanship) school opening in Melaque. This will be a fantastic display of traditional Mexican horsemanship and cowboy skills, featuring talented men & women (google "escaramuza") and their beautiful horses from around Jalisco. Tickets can be purchased at Beto the vet in Melaque.

Papas on the Plaza

A recent discussion on Tomzap about stuffed potatoes and a few were mentioned in Barra and Melaque. The most famous is Las Güinas in Villa Obregon but their papas are huge and over stuffed. You might be able to order a toned down version but haven't tried them .... and they are expensive. 

This place is on the corner of the Plaza at the entrance to Taco Row. Their papas are small, inexpensive and you choose what you want on them like tacos. I've seen them cooking but they weren't ready and I seldom get into town in the evening anymore. Gonna have to force myself so I can try them

CAM Fund Raiser tomorrow in Villa Obregon

Event on Alvaro Obregon near Villas Camino del Mar.  Starts at 4PM with a 60 peso entrance. Great event that helps support CAM (Centro de Atención Múltiple), a school in Barra de Navidad for kids with special needs.

Melaque Sunrise

The easiest way to remember your old fotos is when other people post them online. Someone just shared this one on Facebook that dates back to when I was living in Villa Obregon and spent more time on the beach. I just reduced this down from 148k to 18k with Radical Image Optimization Tool (RIOT for short) Freeware.

A cocodrilario in Villa Obregon ?

Someone asked if it's a good idea on the CANAL 10 page of Facebook and got a lot of approval. Their idea is for protection of the species and tourism. Logistically Laguna del Tule seems much more difficult than the small lagoon in La Manzanilla. I don't have an opinion

Sewer work to begin

A notice from Canal 10 on Facebook says that work will begin soon to make these sewer repairs which looks way over due. Actually it's not that unusual to see but this is a little more extreme. It appears the registro in the intersection is broken and the house on the bottom's sewer is either broken or clogged. 

You'll never see an official CAUTION sign when there's a hole in the road. It seems to be up to the neighbors to stick something in it like a log or palm frond.

Papas Las Guinas in Villa Obregon

Papas Asadas Rellenas - Estilo Sinaloa

I just ran across this place today on the corner of Aberto Macias and Fco Villa in Villa Obregon. I guess the reason I didn't look sooner is the fotos I've seen of their potatoes. Even though they say "Sinaloa Style" they are nothing like what I've eaten for street food in Mazatlan. In Mazatlan the potatoes are all medium (not large) and a spoon full of crema. After that you put on whatever toppings go on their tacos which are sold from the same stand. The foto of this restaurant's potato was dripping and over flowing with way too much for me to eat in one sitting. Sign says open Monday-Saturday, 6 to10pm. 

I hear there is a "Papas Lady" on the SE corner of the Melaque Plaza - same street as the church .... and maybe a hot-dog vendor on the same corner. People have really enjoyed both so gonna have to get in there some night and check it out.

Kung Fu Panda moved

I never went to this place probably because it was at the far end of Villa Obregon and the streets there are usually a mess.A Number of people liked  their food and in it's new location I'm more likely to try it. The new restaurant is on Taco Row but in the second block away from the plaza. Not nearly as big as their old outdoor spot but there's 4-5 tables inside and probably a few out front.

CAM Special Needs School Fundraiser

I'd heard a few weeks ago that the Villa Obregon plaza was a WiFi Zone but someone just posted this picture of the sign on the Delegación of Villa Obregón office.  Just means I don't know if the signal will reach the plaza.

Gran Bazar - Garage Sale

Our annual yard sale (I think this is our 15th season!) will be this Saturday the 29th from 8:30-11:00 AM, in Villa Obregón on Calle Abel Salgado #234, near the corner of Calle Alejandrina. As usual, we have lots of great items this year. All proceeds are split between the Asilo de Ancianos in Cihuatlán and Pro Animal Melaque. We hope you can stop by. Most everything sells in the first hour, so come early!

Another Gringo business other than the seasonal restaurant or bar. A Canadian couple and the mother of one of them started the electric parts store about 6 months ago. They seem very well stocked, knowledgeable and ready to order what you need.   Nice folks as well.

We are here to serve the community, to bring in the goods that you had to drive to Manzanillo for (like Pool timers), to supply some NICE decorator lighting, LED lighting, designer switch plates.

Yes we have nuts and bolts things like wire, extension cords, breakers and fuses if you have a new build or renovation.

Tell us what you need, what you want, what would be nice to have or smart to have. We'll be going on a couple buying trips in the next month to meet suppliers of unique hard to find inventory.

We'll have interesting items arriving in January, internet 'No break', some more security camera systems to offer alongside our current top of the line BTicino unit, wireless boosters and with your input, the things that you want, the things you can't find, and even if we don't stock it, we can at least source suppliers for the product and special order when the need arises.

50 years over due says the article on Canal235 but it's agreed a better entrance to "Playa del Sol" and Villa Obregon is needed. Looks like that pile of dirt mean the street is closed for the work  I'll check it out later today.

Villa Obregon-Melaque ArtWalk Dec 20

Enjoy an afternoon of art while strolling the calle Esmeralda on Thursday December 20 from 3-6:30 in Villa Obregon.

3 homes will open their doors to display various artwork from different local and Mexican Artists. Showing their work will be Edward Gilliam at his home studio at 35 Esmeralda with his original abstract style of Mexican scenes of women and Mexican life along with his wife, Roxane David showing her photography. 

Jeanne McGee photographs, showing Mexican village scenes at 129 Esmeralda along with Kathy Colhauer, copper beaded jewelry; John Naper, oils depicting Mexican scene; Laura Fine with Mexican Silver Jewelry; Andrea Rose, Mixed Media and a selection of Mexican artists with rugs, paintings and jewelry.

At 85 Calle Hildalgo (next to book exchange) Irma Erazo will be showing her late husband, Martin McCarrick's abstracts along with photography by Melanie Hester and the Laguna del Tule calendar.

Coffee from Taza Negra, indigenous music and refreshments will be served.

Calle Esmeralda is the last perpendicular street to the beach in Villa Obregon, 2 blocks before Bungalows Laguna del Tule. The homes of Edward Gilliam and Jeanne McGee are across from Bungalows Pacifio and next to La Tienda Vida Nueva, respectivly.
