The owner left notice on Facebook that he will not reopen his restaurant after operating for seven years on the west end of the beach. Almost every restaurant in that area suffered heavy damage. At least three are down to a cement slab.

Melaque west end beach
I went over to the lots to open a slot for the 1/2" water pipe that will go in tomorrow and to clean up the ditches after they collapsed a bit after the rain. It was only a few feet and not very wide or deep so I finished early. I took Coyota, my dog, as there is no one around, not much trouble she can get into .... and lately I've only taken her to get her nails clipped. Thought we should give the beach a try with almost nobody there. She likes the sand, still water but is afraid of the waves. Should have exposed her when a puppy but I never had her as a puppy.

New bridge and old school
The west end bridge that crosses the canal is finally finished. Two guys are working on expansion joints and that will be it except for painting a line down the middle.
They paved out to the highway and redid the on ramp towards Melaque. Right now they are putting up a new metal guardrail where the guys are working.
And finally the old Secondaria on the highway. The picture is from a few days ago but now all but one building is a pile of rubble. Destined to be a new soccer and sports field.

All done but the sweepin' up
For those that favor the west end of Melaque for beach and or restaurants .... the streets are finally finished. Compared to much of Melaque they really weren't all that bad but they are a whole lot nicer now. Going to be more parking and a whole lot less dust. I've heard from people a few blocks away that it takes everyone on your street to pay to have it done ... but I can't imagine that happening anywhere. Maybe just a few big spenders? Whatever the story it's nice to have some real streets.

Melaque west end beach
A late quite afternoon on the west end of the beach in Melaque. Last weekend there was only one boat anchored out ... and today there are 6. Also a first with the tables way out on the beach away from the restaurants. These people must have brought their own.
