Two storms and both Category 4

Hurricane Andres is north and out to sea but it reached a Category 4 for a short time and now we have Tropical Storm Blanca who is supposed to reach Category 4 later this week ... maybe tomorrow.  Warnings so far are only for the southern tip of Baja California but it looks to me like wind and rain could effect the whole coast. Definitely surf size will increase.

A little surf, a little view and some rain

The Skim Board competition started yesterday so we had to go see some of it. We got there before the first heat so just watched some local guys playing off to one side. After an hour and no competition we decided to move on. I didn't get any good pictures and Yari took some decent video with my cel phone but she always turns it 90 degrees so no YouTube. Lesson coming up.

Yari heard that you can see smoke from the Colima volcano from the Mirador and I knew it might be possible but it was way too overcast. Even the Volcano Cam near the volcano only shows clouds. It had been awhile since a visit to the Mirador so we drove up. Nahima was sure she could see cocodrilos down below but she sees cocodrilos anywhere there's water.

So now it's Sunday and the weather we have been anticipating is finally here. The rain has started and reports say we'll get between 2-4 inches between now and tomorrow. A very large weather system has come ashore south of us so I just hope it stays south

Big surf from Hurricane Marie

Didn't catch the biggest but these are much bigger than normal. I saw one set just as we walked up that was starting to break half way out in the bay.   Actually saw someone surfing in Barra for the first time in a long time.

Too far out for skim boarding

Down a ways a few try now and then

Hurricane Adrian

Hurricane Adrian turned into a level four hurricane and looks close to shore. Right now it's as close as it's going to get, about 350 miles out. So far very little effect except some unusual clouds but we're hoping for a little rain in the next day or two. Surf is large and I expect it to be for a few days.

Surfing Melaque Costalegre

Surfing (on long-boards) on the Melaque side of the Bahia de Navidad is rare because we mostly have a steep beach break. The only exceptions are during the rainy season when sandbars are created from the outflow. This video was taken after the opening of the Lagoon last summer when there was enough sand deposited to make some good surfing for 3-4 days
